JANUARY 4, 2022/ LIFESTYLE

OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW [2021 RECAP]

Finally got around to write my year recap for 2021, I kept postponing writing the post and when I finally sat down to write it my keyboard stopped working properly so there was no way I could write it…but now I got myself a new laptop and I am ready to write my year recap of 2021. I love writing the year recap it gives me a nice visualization of everything that has happened in those 365 days, and I love going back and rereading my year recaps through the years, it brings back so many memories back, but they are also a reminder of how far I’ve come.

2021 was definitely a year of big changes for me, on January 1st 2021 I was living in Skopje by myself and working a 9 to 5 job that I absolutely loathed and that made me so miserable. I remember feeling so sad that I couldn’t go home for the holidays (I had no days off of work), and I spent NYE on a video call with my friends. Fast forward to January 1st 2022, I am living in the USA and currently visiting my aunt in California and going on a little weekend getaway to San Diego with my boyfriend. I am working for myself and I couldn’t be more happier about it. But let’s see more slowly how this happened.

Last January I was so unhappy. I was working a job that I hated in an environment that I did not like at all. I was spending the holidays by myself since I didn’t have any vacation days from work. I was in a long distance relationship and a 6h time difference. My best friends were stuck in other countries due to covid and we couldn’t go anywhere together except on a video call. And the day being short and the weather cold and gloomy just added to this miserable state I was in. But, aware of the whole situation and how I feel I decided to take action and change things up.

So in February I quit my job (and it was a huge relief), covid restrictions loosened up so my friend flew back and we organized a girls ski trip to the mountains where we had a great time, even though it was meant to be a ski trip it was more of a spa trip lol. Then my boyfriend returned and we were no longer long-distancing and things started feeling good.

March was a very busy month, work wise. Planing and launching new products for Beyond Green, as well as doing our first ever pop up which was very successful. The month was filled with weekend trips to the mountains and spending time with friends and family.

Thinking back of April it seemed like it passed in a blink and based on my camera roll it was filled with pictures of food, dogs in costumes and walks in the park. Then moving to my favorite month of the year- May also my birthday month as well as Otto’s birthday. We celebrated Otto’s first birthday, then it was time for my 23rd birthday which was a bbq and cocktails party with my friends. And after a long time of being apart with covid it was a great change to have (most of them) all together in one place.

And as June approached summer was here. Spontaneous trips to the Greek seaside, followed by swims in the sea and delicious seafood, working on some really cool campaigns with some really cool brands. First half of July was similar to June, weekend trips to the seaside, playing golf, hanging out with friends, escaping the heat. But July was also the month when I decided to move to the USA, so it was a lot of planning, taking care of paperwork, packing and finalizing details. I had to pack the apartment I was staying in in Skopje and take all the stuff back to Bitola and then pack again the essential things that I would take to the USA. The last two weeks I was spending time with my friends and family and saying my goodbyes. And then first week of August me and Otto were on a 9 hour flight to NYC.

August, September and October were beautiful. I was exploring NYC and blending in. I spent days walking around, visiting museums and exhibitions, strolls in Central Park, finding cute spots where to eat, and discovering bars. It sounds cliche but moving to NYC was a beautiful life change, I love the city and find it so charming (even with all the trash and smell going around lol). I love the fast-paced lifestyle, how everyone is rushing somewhere and I love that there is always something happening, oh an also I love that it’s a walkable city and that it has working public transport which is rare in the USA. I’ve always said that London and NYC are very similar, although London will always be my no.1, NYC is right behind him. And after 3 months of living there I can see myself living there more long-term. Being in NYC also brought me many career opportunities. In just a short period of time I started working with some of my dream brands and take part in cool campaigns.

November we decided to leave the cold NYC weather and go on the West coast to sunny California. My aunt (that is like a second mother to me, lives there) so I was very happy to spend time with her and my uncle and cousins. The plan was to stay until Thanksgiving but we extended the stay until after NYE. In November Beyond Green turned one and started worldwide shipping, and I couldn’t be more proud of how far it has come.

Two months in California were perfect. Roadtrips to the beach, day trips to LA, weekend getaway to Las Vegas, visiting National Parks and so much more. It was a great change of scenery from NYC.

Looking now, a lot of things happened to me in 2021 in all aspects of my life. It was a challenging year with a lot of uncertainty, but I still managed to achieve most of my goals. It was a year where I made a lot of bold decisions and embraced big changes, a year where I put myself and my happiness on the first place. But it wasn’t an easy year for sure, there was a lot of stress and sleepless nights, self-doubt, bad days, days where I had no motivation for anything. But at the end the positive aspects out weight the negative and that’s all that’s important.

I am happy and healthy, my parents, boyfriend and closest friends are well and healthy. I have all my family members on count. I live the life the way I want to live it, I work my dream job and I get to share my happiness and achievements with the people around me. And in reality, what more can a person ask for?

I want to wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope 2022 is the best so far, filled with love, happiness, health and succsses.
